Bicycle resources, riding tips, local rides and group rides

Thank you to Bob Kimball for hosting his annual ride, swim and BBQ at his home in August.  We had a good group of riders.

There were a couple of injuries on this ride and I hope Norm and JoLynn are feeling better!

Thanks also go to Lois & Lindy who are now leading the Beginner’s Ride on the first Saturday of the Month.  So remember to send any ‘newbies’ their way.

Come out to ride the Cancer Awareness Run & Ride this month.  SCBC is a big supporter of this event and of Team Triumph.

If you aren’t riding, I can use your need help in our SCBC Booth.  I am working a couple of positions in the morning so I really need those hours covered in the booth.  Hope to see you there!

All members should come out  for our last ride and BBQ this summer on Sept. 14 at Jacob Meyer Park.

What a wonderful time we had at July’s General meeting at Dave & Sue Enz’!  With three different rides for the various levels and food for everyone, it was a delightful time to swim, visit and relax. Thank you, Dave & Sue!

Don’t forget the Del Puerto ride, bbq and swim at Bob Kimball’s in August. Watch for more details in our monthly newsletter – Pacelines, and the weekly Ride-Minders.

New jerseys are ready! We should be getting our ‘fit-kit’ any day.  You will be able to try jerseys, etc. on for size and then order what you want. An exact date should be given on yahoo! groups so make sure you’re signed up and watch for it there.

Hope you’re having a wonderful summer,

Susan

I hope you are enjoying nice riding weather as much as I am!

And how nice it would be for you to help a new rider enjoy it, too.  We are now making a list of ‘mentors’ who would be willing to help a new SCBC member get familiar with the club and help them in their beginning riding goals.

Maybe it would be to e-mail them about rides, to get them on our yahoo groups, or ride with them as they get used to our rides.

Whatever it is, you can really help spread the love of biking by signing up to be a mentor.

Lisa Boudreaux and Tim Johnson, two new Board Members, are starting this program and they need your name to pair with a new member.

Please e-mail them and let them know you can be a mentor.  If you are new to SCBC and wish to have this kind of riding ‘buddy’ you can e-mail them, too.

You will be paired with someone on our list who can help you get started.

See you this month for our ride, swim and bbq at Dave Enz’s,

Susan

We made it through May!
Please welcome our newest Board Members:
Tim Johnson and Lisa Boudeaux.

Tim and Lisa have already begun working on ideas for a ‘Mentor/Buddy’ program for  new riders.  Our hope is that we can pair a beginner in SCBC with a more experienced member.

It might be to help them find how to connect to our yahoo groups, learn about how to navigate our wonderful website, give them ideas about which rides would match their abilities or to just plain ride with them until they feel comfortable.

In order to do this, we need some willing SCBC members to be these mentors.  Please consider helping a new rider get started.  We’ll talk more at our General Meeting on June 8 or you can contact Lisa right now.

Hope to see you at Orange Blossom Park for salmon!
